Dasha is a unique feature of Vedic Astrology.

Dasha literally means condition- in a particular time period.

Dasha system is a best way of finding good or not so good periods in our life.

Scores of Dasha systems are listed by our sages, but not all are in vogue, we can't actually use them properly because most of our books were plundered, destroyed and looted by people who invade India for centuries.

Vimshotri Dasha, Char dasha, Yogini dasha, Mandook dasha, ashtotri dasha are more commonly used.

We should use at least 2 or three dasha to corroborate the results.

Vimshotri;

Vimshotri Dasha is most extensively used dasha.

It is a Sanskrit word denoting 120- in Kalyuga (present time according to Sanatan Dharma) life span of most people will be maximum of 120 years.

This dasha is based on birth star of moon. Birth star of moon or lagna( ascendant), whichever is stronger should be used but moon star is used conventionally.

There are total 27stars/nakshtras used in astrology.

Based on their lordship Mahadasha begins.

120 years of Dasha are divided into planets as given below-

Sun - 6 years

Moon - 10 years

Mars - 7 years

Mercury - 17 years

Jupiter - 16 years

Venus - 20 years

Saturn - 19 years

Rahu - 18 years

Ketu - 7 years

Main period is called Mahadasha, then again small periods of all the planets will come and they are called antardasha, then pratyantar is comparatively smaller periods, and suksham is next, then pran dasha is smallest periods. These periods can give us an almost perfect picture of time frame, from few years to few hours and minutes.

In 6 years of Mahadasha of Sun there will be proportionate periods of (antardasha) of moon, mars, mercury, jupiter, venus, saturn, rahu, ketu; then proportionate prtyantar dasha of each planet and so on.

These days we only need to understand, what is dahsa and how it works, because all the calculations are done in astrological apps.

In its dasha periods a planet gives three types of results-

a- according to its natural traits

b- according to its placement

c-according to its lordship of houses

Suppose we want to see the marriage prospects of an aries ascendant person, his/her 7th house lord is venus. Venus is also a significator of marriage. So, we have to see where it is placed in that perticular chart, we know that in aries he owns 2nd and 7th house. Now we have to see its strengths, is he exalted, got digbala etc. and then we have to see is it in conjunction, or aspected by other planets. If it is aspected/conjunct, then are they benefic or melefics (auspicious planets of inauspicious planets).
